We took our last trip to Colonia and San Jose. We visited the beautiful city of Colonia and then we spent two days at Finca Piedra a traditional Estancia in San Jose.
NMH students were happy and we had a great time together, riding horses, playing soccer and enjoying the delicious food at the Estancia. Gordon learned how to play Truco, a typical card game in Uruguay and he engaged everybody in this fun game. The students are spending time with their families this week.
Here are some pictures of what we did. The big animal you see surrounded by our kids is called carpincho in Uruguay. Wayne wants to take one of them with him!

On Sunday, Uruguayans celebrated Grandparents day. Most of our students spent the weekend with their extended families, enjoying the traditions of family and friends.
Today we went back to school and our kids were busy cooking. They made "empanadas" and "alfajores". Marina, the teacher who helped them to make these delicious dishes was impressed by how well NMH students cooked and cleaned and how much they enjoyed the activity.
Here are some pics of our workshop. The kids also take with them the recipes and they've promised to make empanadas and alfajores when we are back at school!

Greetings from Montevideo! Another busy week in the city. We had very nice weather this week and we did lots of things.
We had another drumming session, we visited Solis Theater and the Museo de la Memoria today. Students are in very good spirits and their Spanish is improving a lot. They know about football, food, music and culture and they are already part of our community.

Here are some pics at the Teatro Solis, the oldest theater in the city.

We also received a local artist at the school with whom they made finger puppets and bracelets.

Today we visited the MEMU (Museo de la Memoria)  were we explored part of the history of the country and participated in a dancing/expression workshop with two local dancers.

Enjoy the pictures!

Greetings from the south! We started another week with very cold weather but no rain!! We visited the old city and went to Joaquín Torres García's museum and the Cabildo. Our students had some time to explore the city and to get a few gifts to take home.
Tomorrow morning we will be heading to Minas in the department of Lavalleja. We are excited to have some time to rest surrounded by hills in the center of the country.  We will be back on Friday!
